Easily Distracted – Space Marine Side Project

Posted in Cosplay, Personal Thoughts, Space Marine, Warhammer 40K on January 3, 2017 by Neal

Now I tend to get easily distracted when it comes to costume building. I have several pepakura helmets laying around as well as several foam attempts at other costume parts. This will officially be the first thing I have built to a normal finish that I have completed.

Still needs some tweaking around the shape and structure. Few extra bits needing to be added to make it ready for heat sealing and shaping. But for now my goal to complete builds is finally under way.

Wisdom From The Future. Part 2

A mind without purpose will wander in dark places.

Here is another quote I read from a Warhammer 40K book which I feel seems to sum up how depression can impact on someone.

The idea for this quote is that without purpose a person will turn to the darker forces which rampage through the galaxy within the 40K universe. This leads people to be possessed by daemons and become conduits for the chaotic forces in the warp.

For depression I feel it shows the impact it can have on your mind. Depression causes us to loose direction and focus. You begin to feel tired and the idea of doing anything becomes harder, staying in bed and avoiding things offers a better result than forcing a smile and joining the world at large. Without ways to cope with this creeping darkness within, the mind starts looking at things in a way you would normally never do.

“I wonder what stepping in front of a bus would be like? Does falling off a ledge really hurt?” Things you wouldn’t normally consider start to take on an unhealthy interest. Add in the emotional doubts and self destructive feelings, you get a very potent mix. Unchecked this leads to the inevitable suicide attempts.

It’s a delicate balance fighting depression, made even harder by the chaotic and uncertain world we live in today.

Wisdom From the Future. Part 1

Only the insane have strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane.

This is a quote I read in one of the older versions of Warhammer 40K and at times it pops to mind when I look at the state of the world we live in. More importantly I see this as a kind of motto that could be used when battling depression.

There is this misconception that still seems to surround depression that you have to be insane to suffer from it. Not just running down the street yelling at purple giraffes, I mean padded cell and jacket insane. But depression takes on many forms and intensity all dependent on an individal.

Depression is a constant battle that can be hard to win against. There are moments when you are on top of it then times it has you in a strangle hold. Having the strength to fight the battle can be difficult but is the key to swinging things your way. Now this is just a personal observation but I feel people who fight depression probably have a better understanding of the world and themselves than many of us have. They are hyper aware of how their actions influence others and how others influence them. Knowing your downward triggers so you can put into place counters against them. Having the knowledge of ways to reverse a depressive episode when it catches up with you.

Perhaps the quote could be read as

They who have depression have strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane.
